Loton Park

This weekend was a Loton Park speed hillclimb weekend and also a round of the WSCC Speed Series so with Sunday being the better day for the weather we headed up for lunchtime to watch afternoon session times runs. It was great to wander round the paddock and have a chat with some of the speed series competitors. Unfortunately what started as glorious sunshine soon turned to drizzle and then heavy rain for about 30 mins meaning that by the time the Wesfield guys were on track it was decidedly wet. We had a surprise flyover from the Red Arrows too!

Ive been visiting Loton since 2003 and over the years its been great to see the spectator money being re-invested in better facilities. The bar and decking area are particularly welcome.

There’s a larger selection of photos from the day in the Gallery.

Midlands Breakfast Club

Sunday 21st was the quarterly meeting of the Midlands Breakfast Club. I hadn’t been before but a club member was keen to meet up and have a look at my seats as he was considering ordering a pair. They meet on Sundays at the British Ironwork Centre. Normally this wouldn’t have been possible for me but Ive recently relocated my car from one storage unit to another. The original one I was always a stop-gap and wasn’t particularly convenient – about 8 miles outside of Shrewsbury and closed on Sundays and Bank holidays. Not ideal so Ive been looking for an alter alternative for a while. The new one is has 24/7 access and is much closer – about 10 mins from the house. Meanwhile I am still on the lookout for a local garage to rent.

The weather was great on the Sunday so I headed off bright and early to arrive for 9am. The staff at the Ironwork Centre very welcoming and had hot drinks and breakfast baps waiting for us. The meeting was not Westfield specific, but open to all makes of car. As a result it was a bit too ‘Fast & Furious’ for me and to be honest I wont be rushing out to go to another. However it was a great opportunity to catch up with some club members and I will definitely be returning to the Ironwork Centre another time for a look around their shops and blacksmith workshops.

The Bank holiday weekend is the Loton Park round of the Westfield Speed Series so I’m looking forward to some good weather an a trip out to see the club racers in action on the hill.

New wheels fitted

I took the old and new wheels to a tyre centre this week and had the existing tyres fitted to the 2nd hand wheels I picked up last week. The old and new wheels are the same size so this was a straigh forward job.

They were a bargain at £150 for the set of 5. Just need to regime my old ones now. And change the white stripes to black to match the black/red theme!
