Final prep for the weekend.

Popped over to the car today to start the packing for the weekend. First though I took the weight off the new sils hoping they had adhered properly. Thankfully they had:

The
Next up I packed my camping stuff into the passenger footwell. It all went in ok and the sleeping bag went into the boot in a waterproof bag. Just need to get food and clothes in now.

Lastly for today I installed a fire extinguisher in the boot. I’m not particularly concerned about fire risk but it’s a good thing to cary and doesn’t take much space.

Stoneleigh show prep

I’m heading to the National Kit Car Show at Stoneleigh this weekend. I’ll be helping with the club stand at the show and camping on site. So last night saw the start of the preparations.

First up was to get the car out and give it a much needed wash. It hadn’t seen a damp sponge since last year and was filthy.

Next I fitted my first bits of real carbon fibre – some sil protectors which I stuck on with a special glue. I left them weighted down & setting and went to dig out my tent and other camping things. Due to space limits it will be a no frills trip, limited to the small tent and the essentials. I’ll have a trial pack on Thursday or Friday, making full use of the passenger footwell and seat. The forecast isnt great so warm clothes and waterproofs will also be needed!

Fuel Level Sender

Having put it off since last year I finally changed the faulty fuel sender today. I’d put it off because although its a cheap part and a simple job, in order to access to the sender in the top of the fuel tank means removing the boot box which in turn means some  dissmantlement of the roll bar. It’s a faffy and time consuming job.

So, with all that done the sender can be seen in the top of the tank:

There’s 5 screws to undo although the 5th one is longer and is not removed completely otherwise the internal seal will drop into the tank. There’s a notch in it that allows it to fit through the hole and be removed with the sender assembly. It can be seen in the picture below.

The new sender needs adjusting for height and length based on the depth of the tank. There’s a table for values in the instructions and it’s easy enough to do. Fitting is the reverse of the removal. The new sender is reconnected and everything else re-installed. No time for a drive today which was a shame but I might try and get one in mid week.
