New Seats Yay!

After almost a whole month of waiting the new seats are finally here.

They arrived superbly packaged and exactly as specified so full respect to JK Composites for an excellent service.

Fitting them was a difficult job despite all my preparations. I’d ordered some threaded spacers to replace the originals and some new bolts, nuts and washers however it’s was still a fiddly job. Things weren’t helped when I found the previously un-removed  drivers seat had different runners to the passenger one I measured!

After a lot of sweating, swearing, stretching, pushing and shoving I got them it

They are significantly comfier than the originals and also allow you to sit lower down helping visibility. At some point I want to replace the odd runners so they match as one is sitting slightly higher than the other..

Here’s a look at the stripes I fitted last weekend too. Getting them lined up straight  was tricky and the finish is not perfect with too many air bubbles but as a practice run to see if I like them it’s worked out OK

A trip to Bailey Performance.

I took the car to  Bailey Performance in Broseley today for a half day rolling road session to ensure the engine was set up properly and to try and get the hesitation sorted by adjusting the fueling and carburettors.   The work turned into an 8 hour session of ups & downs as one problem fixed led to another. Watching and hearing your car being ferociously reved to the limit repeatedly is not a comfortable experience. Dale at Bailey really knew his trade though and brought a positive attitude to the whole day and worked tirelessly to get the car running right. Having tried to resolve the hesitancy with the mixture settings and various combinations of idle jets In the end we had to change the main jets and tubes on the carbs as well as the chokes which was quite a big job.

the top of a carb. Idle jets on the left (one removed), main jets on the right.

It all came good in the end though and a quick test drive proved it. A final power run on the rollers showed 150bhp with an 18% transmission loss which is good. The experience was positive overall and well worth it but kind of like a trip to the dentist for a filling. The drilling hurts a bit and you want to stop but it needs to be done!image
